Enthusiastic Recommendations — August 29, 2025

September is here! Well, that’s how it feels to me — even if technically there are still a few days left. This past week we got the iPhone event announcement, and we officially launched our fundraising campaign for St. Jude. Both of these things feel very September to me. So it’s basically September.

I just got off a call with our partners at St. Jude as we work on plans for the 12-hour Podcastathon on September 19th. I’m really excited for it this year, and I hope you’ll tune in.

I just have one recommendation for you today:

  • One of my all-time favourite bands, The Maccabees, recently reunited to play a festival in London called All Points East. I wasn’t able to be there, but seeing them together again on Instagram sent me down a deep rabbit hole. The Maccabees are emblematic of a style of music that I loved in the 2010s — we called it “Indie,” though I’m sure it has more distinctions now. Their debut album Colour It In is one of my absolute favourites. They’ve always had such great style, sound, and lyrical skill. I really recommend checking out their Apple Music Essentials playlist — it spans their entire discography and features so many songs that are classics to me. While I’m disappointed to have missed them last weekend, I’ve been lucky enough to see them live seven times — more than any other band. I even once saw them play a secret gig in a pub in East London put on by Converse.

Give them a listen this weekend. I’d love it if some of you became new fans.
