Do yourself a favor and spend some time today reading Federico’s fantastic—I’ll say—profile of iPadOS 26 and how Craig Federighi thinks about the iPad’s place in Apple’s lineup.

I don’t want to spoil this article, but I just wanted to share my favourite quote from Craig:

At the same time, you have to not be allergic to learning from the past. I think the balance we've landed on now, is saying, ‘Listen, in the case that the right answer for iPad is a consistent one with another device, the Mac, then, of course, let’s use it. But let’s not reach for something on the Mac reflexively, just because it’s there’”.

What I appreciate about this quote is Craig saying that, of course, Apple looks to the past when thinking about making something new—but they don’t lean on it out of habit.

I’m glad they’ve finally acknowledged that the right system for the Mac is what we now have in iPadOS 26, although I do wish it hadn’t taken them so long to get here.
