It’s All Kicking Off
It feels like this week the Apple year has started to kick off. Next week we have the “Apple Experience” event, which will presumably be a week of press releases announcing new products. The expectation is that most of the announcements will be spec bumps to existing products, but the rumoured A18 Pro–powered MacBook would be a fascinating addition — and one that will fuel discussion for weeks. I’m looking forward to seeing what Apple has been cooking.
From there, we start looking toward WWDC, which will be here sooner than we think. Between now and then, maybe we’ll see some Apple Intelligence features — who knows. But I’m excited to be at the beginning of the trajectory that will lead us toward the fall.
This week Jason Snell published the Six Colors Report Card for 2025. I always enjoy this time of year because it frames the previous year perfectly, setting the table for what’s next. Its publication the week before the “Experience” is pretty perfect timing.
I also always enjoy the episode of Upgrade where we go over the scores — and where I force Jason to give his own answers. This year was especially enjoyable, as Jason fully embraced his inner rascal.
But of course, this isn’t my only focus at work. I was really thrilled this week to be interviewed by Jason Aten for his Creative Effort podcast. A few years ago, Jason wrote a wonderful review of the Sidekick Notepad for Inc., so I was delighted to join him to talk in more detail about my product work.
I really value the opportunity to share my thought process behind designing our products. It’s invigorating to talk about the feelings I have about what we make and why we make the decisions we do.
Alongside the podcast, Jason also wrote an article for Inc. reflecting on our conversation. It made me feel really great to read — very validating. Please check out both the podcast and the article. I’m really proud of them.
Have a wonderful week. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead. We’ll still be drafting on Upgrade and giving first impressions on Connected.
