The Enthusiast Weekly – October 24, 2025

Happy Friday. I am currently on a train on my way to see my barber. My beard has gotten a touch too long, which is much more of a problem these days as Sophia loves to grab it and pull as hard as she can. So, it’s time for a trim!

Recently I’ve been trying to find refillable cosmetics products as a way to reduce a little of my personal plastic waste. I’ve been loving this soap applicator called Bob, and today I bought an antiperspirant from a company called Make Waves. If you have any recommendations for products like this, I’d love to hear them (ideally if they’re available in the UK, of course). I know this is just a drop in the ocean in terms of environmental impact, but I want to support companies that are trying to change habits. Millions of drops in the ocean would make a difference.

After talking so lovingly about Pokémon last week, I was really keen to try Legends Z-A, and I’m surprised by just how much I’m enjoying this game. The battling mode is completely different from every other Pokémon game — it’s much more active than turn-based — and this departure is bringing a lot of fun. I’m only a few hours in so far, but I’m looking forward to slowly chipping away at this one. It just so happens that the game lends itself to playing in chunks at a time, with a very distinct difference between what’s happening in the day and at night. It’s quite easy to play one day of game time and then put it down again.

I really hope you enjoyed the latest Cortex episode with David Pierce. I had such fun talking to him. If you enjoy these posts each week, you should definitely check out his newsletter Installer. Looking ahead, I’m so excited to share the next two Workflow episodes with you. The guests I have booked are both dream guests — one is already recorded, and hopefully the other comes together as planned.

Next week I’m taking the week off from my shows to spend some extended time at home with the family — in case you wonder why I’m missing. A few years ago, I made a plan to take at least one week off every quarter. That was superseded by my paternity leave for the first three quarters of this year, but I’m picking it back up again. It’s very helpful for me to take these breaks.

Finally, please check out this year’s edition of The Subtle Range. I wear products from this line of clothing every day, and I’m really excited about the addition of the quarter-zip pullover this year. I’ve been wearing a sample version and have found it to be really comfortable and incredibly versatile. Also, our new cream/ivory colour across the line is super nice. Please give them a look.

Have an awesome week!
